Tip #1 Know Your Game
You can't expect to win a game that you have never played before. You would never play a team sport without knowing the positions, the rules, and the object. Yet many many business owners do just that. They open a business because they are a good technician or because somebody thought they should turn their hobby into a business. You have to want to be in business. You have to want to be a business owner. You have to know what it means to be successful in business before you commit to playing the game.
Start with a business plan. Your game plan.
Write a mission statement. What is the business you are in?
Have a vision statement. How do you see yourself accomplishing the mission?
Then establish some short and long term goals with action plans that support them.
Know why you are in business and what you expect the return to be. How will you know when you have scored?
You have to know the game!
